Haydale Graphene Industries plc Joint Venture with Scott Bader Company Ltd

Haydale Graphene Industries plc (LON:HAYD), the group focused on the commercialisation of graphene and other nano particle products using their proprietary plasma process has today announced its composites division Haydale Composite Solutions Ltd (“HCS”) has entered into a joint development and commercialisation agreement (“JDCA”) with Scott Bader Company Ltd (“Scott Bader”) a leading global supplier of liquid resins, gel coats and adhesives.
Under the agreement, HCS will functionalise Graphene Nano Platelets (“GNPs”) utilising its proprietary HDPlas® process and add them to Scott Bader’s Crestapol resin to create a highly loaded masterbatch. This masterbatch will then be diluted down by Scott Bader and HCS into a range of concentrations from 1% to 8% and cast into resin plaques which will then be tested to quantify any improvements in mechanical, physical, electrical and thermal performance.
Preliminary work has already demonstrated that the functionalised GNP’s readily disperse in the Crestapol resin to produce a masterbatch with loadings of GNPs up to 25% by weight. It has also been demonstrated that the masterbatch can be readily diluted down and cast into plaques for testing. Initial mechanical test results conducted by HCS have indicated increases of up to 200% in both tensile stiffness and strength which represent a major leap forward in resins technology. It is anticipated that there will be similar significant uplifts in electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity and physical properties which would open major opportunities for Crestapol resins in a wide range of composite applications such as thermally conductive tooling, EMI shield enclosures, lighter weight wind turbines etc.
Under the JDCA it is anticipated that Scott Bader and HCS will develop and validate the use of Graphene enhanced Crestapol resins in targeted composite applications and that Scott Bader will then supply graphene enhanced Crestapol resins to markets across the world utilising graphene masterbatch supplied by HCS.

Jonathan Campbell, Assistant Product Manager for Crestapols and Gelcoats Scott Bader Co Ltd said: “We at Scott Bader are excited to be part of this new joint venture to develop and offer graphene-enhanced resins. From the initial findings we have some promising results which we will look to duplicate in our further studies. This development will hopefully lead to an enhancement in physical properties of our already high end resins for specialist applications.”
Ray Gibbs, Haydale Chief Executive, said: “We have identified the composites market as a strategic sector for our functionalised graphene materials and this agreement represents a major opportunity to work with another global partner to develop a whole new range of formulated resins with enhanced properties which can be sold into the composites’ market across the world. Following our agreement with Huntsman, Haydale now have partners for both epoxy and polyester resins which provides Haydale with access to a significant portion of the composites market.”
Gerry Boyce Managing Director of HCS added: “We are very excited about working with another leading resins company and to developing markets and applications for these new graphene enhanced Crestapol resins. We see Graphene enhanced polymer resins and their use in composite materials as being a revolution. The ability to fundamentally change the mechanical, electrical, thermal and physical properties of the base resin, which typically represents up to 50% of the composite material, will be a major step forward and will give us the ability to develop a whole new range of advanced composite materials and products with enhanced performance and lower cost.”

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Sept. 10, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The All-American Gateway Tour (AAGT) has just announced an exciting partnership with the East coast based company OnCore Golf, making them the new title sponsor of the tour. With this partnership, the largest developmental pro golf tour on the West coast will be rebranded to the OnCore Gateway Tour while also making the world's only hollow stainless steel core golf ball the official golf ball of the tour. This will ensure players of the tour not only have access to OnCore's top high performance ball with true perimeter weighting and enhanced rifle spin but also directly contribute to future enhancements of the golf ball.

"We are very excited about OnCore Golf's title sponsorship and are pleased to announce that because of it, our players will have the ability to play our tournaments with a truly cutting edge ball, one in fact that was nominated for International Network Golf's 2015 Product Ingenuity Award and was named one of the Top 25 Products at the PGA Show by the Golf Channel," said AAGT owner Dusty Dean. "OnCore has spent years developing the only USGA conforming hollow core golf ball in the market today. In fact, the technology is so ground-breaking that the USGA has issued a new interpretation of the Rules of Golf governing golf ball construction which allows for this unique, patented ball construction. While the ball already benefits golfers of all skill levels, through this relationship our players will have an active role in helping OnCore further enhance the ball so it ultimately becomes the golf ball of choice for professionals. It's important to us that our players are directly impacted by our sponsors' contributions and giving them access to OnCore's golf ball for not just their own game play but also to help shape the future of the game is just one of the many ways we strive to be a leader in the development golf industry."

Since its inception in 2001 under the original name of the Gateway Pro Tour, the most well-known and established tour in the developmental golf industry, the tour has served over 4,000 players, paid out over $44 million in purses, and boasts an impressive number of alumni (168) currently playing on the PGA and Web.com Tours, representing 32 PGA Tour wins and 78 Web.com Tour wins. Adding OnCore Golf's MA-1.0 golf ball to its roster is just one more benefit players will enjoy on the newly branded OnCore Gateway Tour in its upcoming season.

"The next generation of pro golfers is always looking for cutting-edge technology to improve their game and enhance their prospects for competitive success. OnCore not only brings a new dimension to the game with its patented ball technology, but the company has always taken an interest in the individual – professional or amateur – focusing on their enjoyment and experience and the relationship with AAGT will allow us to do much more of that. The 2015/16 tour will be nothing like any before it and we're excited about the plans being developed for this season."

With a continued focus on innovation and a commitment to help players become successful in their goal to play professional golf at the highest level, the Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons of the tour kick off with eighteen 54-hole tournaments scheduled to be played from September to April throughout the Phoenix area, plus a season-ending Tour Championship. And, with the shared vision that both the tour and OnCore Golf have on creating products and experiences unlike anything the industry has ever seen before, players will have opportunities on the OnCore Gateway Tour that no other developmental tour can offer.

"Since day one, AAGT has been committed to providing standards in line with the PGA Tour and ensuring our players have the absolute best development platform in the U.S. so they have the best shot possible in achieving their goals," said Dean. "We have been focused on finding partners that have that same mindset and are willing to help us deliver the standards our members deserve. Partnering with OnCore Golf, who has also been battling for their position in the golf ball industry much like we have in the developmental golf arena, is key in our endeavor to revolutionize the world of developmental pro golf."

Nuenz Inc. leases two labs in Amherst while considering a WNY manufacturing operation

Nuenz Inc. -- the North American arm of a company based in New Zealand -- has established a small initial operation in Baird Research Park while it considers Western New York for a manufacturing operation.

The company has been accepted into the Start-Up NY tax-breaks program and is developing relationships with UB’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences as it looks to do pilot work based on the silicon nitride fibers it developed out of Victoria University. It is also considering a partnership with the Buffalo Manufacturing Works project.
The Nuenz initiative is being overseen by Keith Blakely of The InVentures Group, which was first engaged by Nuenz Ltd. several years ago to help it identify customers and applications for its high-performance material. Blakely found issues with the company’s manufacturing approach and helped it develop an alternative process, after which it began to explore an operation in the United States. Nuenz also considered the Charlotte area.
The company currently has two labs in the UB Technology Incubator at Baird, where it is manufacturing initial quantities of material while gathering information about commercial applicability and potential markets.
“Right now, it is a gestation period while we wait to quantify those commercial opportunities, then we’ll move forward with the growth plans,” Blakely said.
The company’s fibers could be useful in reinforcing plastics, polymers and resins, strengthening the overall structure with less weight and fewer layers.

It’s hard to say how Nuenz’s technology will play in the composites marketplace, and the question boils down to how many different commercial applications it has, Blakely said.
“It’s not hard to envision this being a manufacturing operation that employs 50 to 100 people and our Start-Up projections were along those lines,” he said, referring to the projections that the Nuenz project would create 40 net new jobs. “But if a major wind turbine company decided this is a way to improve their energy output, efficiency and reliability, you could see an operation that’s much bigger.”
